Program Process

California Energy Design Assistance (CEDA) provides a step-by-step guide for implementing energy-efficient and decarbonization strategies in your building project. Once enrolled, you’ll move through a structured process that typically spans 4–6 weeks, depending on the size and scope of your project. Our team guides you through each step, keeping you informed and supported from start to finish.

Step 1: Enrollment

  • Action: Submit schematic information about your building via the Energy Design Assistance application or directly to one of our outreach specialists.
  • What Happens Next: Our team will review your submission and confirm your eligibility, customizing the process for your needs. From there, we move into an initial discovery discussion.

Step 2: Discovery Call

  • Action: The CEDA team conducts an initial meeting to discuss your project’s goals, design, and potential constraints.
  • What Happens Next: Following this call, we’ll begin preparing a tailored energy analysis and identify key decarbonization strategies.

Step 3: Results Meeting

  • Action: We schedule a follow-up meeting to present the energy analysis and recommend optimal energy-efficient and decarbonization measures.
  • What Happens Next: After the results meeting, Willdan prepares required paperwork and collects the owner’s and design team’s signatures, then submits the project for review and preapproval.

Step 4: Verification

  • Action: After construction is complete, we verify that the recommended decarbonization measures are properly installed.
  • What Happens Next:
    • Project Team: Submit construction documents and any necessary submittals.
    • Willdan: Verify installed measures, gather documentation, and ensure incentives are not duplicated.

Step 5: Savings

  • Action: Once we complete verification, we process and issue incentive payments to the owner, helping to offset project costs.
  • As a result, you can enjoy ongoing energy savings while supporting California’s decarbonization goals. Your building improvements reduce carbon emissions and contribute to a more sustainable grid.
